Winstanley College student Vicky Rumsfeld has been awarded the British Colleges Sports Performer of The Year for outstanding sporting achievement.

17 year old Vicky, from Wigan, commented: “I'm really elated I won the award.  It was such a surprise to have won especially after seeing the talents of the other nominees.  It's great to be recognised for such a big award nationally and it's also good to have so much support from the PE staff who nominated me.”

Vicky, who is currently studying maths, further maths, PE and philosophy A-levels at Winstanley College, is involved in a number of sports but ensures that she fits her sporting commitments around her studies.

Vicky currently plays football for the Liverpool Ladies reserve team and represents the county playing for the Lancashire U18 team and for the North West British Colleges as well as captaining the Winstanley College women’s football team.  She also plays for the British Colleges Sport National Hockey Team as well as representing the Lancashire U21’s team and Lancashire Senior 1st team and playing for the Wigan 1st team.  Vicky is also an integral part of the Winstanley College mixed hockey team and runs sessions for the Junior Hockey team at Wigan.

And it doesn’t stop there!  Vicky is now a key member of the Winstanley College Sports Committee and was recently involved in a world record attempt at the College in aid of Sport Relief.  With such dedication to sport it’s easy to see why this Wigan teenager has been awarded Sports Performer of the Year.

Winstanley College Sports Maker Shelley Evans said: “There are some extremely talented athletes at Winstanley College and I feel it is important that we recognise and celebrate these students. There was really tough competition for the award as most students nominated are performing at International level and all were talented performers.  I am really pleased for Vicky to have won such a prestigious award.”
