The Maple Group member colleges are all also members of the Sixth Form Colleges Association, and would like to draw attention to the SFCA’s campaign over the unfair imposition of VAT on sixth form colleges: a tax which schools, even those with sixth forms, do not pay.
This disadvantages sixth form colleges, and therefore our students, by taking hundreds of thousands of pounds back from our state funding, back to the Treasury. MG member colleges each pay from around £250,000 to £500,000 a year in unrecoverable VAT. Yet we receive income according to the same formula as schools which do not pay any VAT.
