Congratulations to the Holy Cross Athletics squad who competed in Wales on Wednesday 19^th, 2014. The team won the British Colleges Sport (BCS) Wales and NW Colleges Indoor Athletics Championships overall for the SIXTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR!!!!

Unfortunately the girls’ team were hit by withdrawals from the squad on the morning of the event leaving only four athletes to compete in seven different events. The girls overcame this adversity and their gallant approach secured 3^rd place, falling only 4 points behind 2^nd and 10 points behind 1^st place.

Excellent performances from the four girls involved; Girls Captain Beth Bolton (1^st in high jump, 2^nd in 60m final); Benedicte Yende (5^th in long jump and 3^rd in 1500m); Ammie Leong (2^nd in long jump and 6^th in 60m sprint); and Chloe Law (3^rd in shot and 4^th in 800m). The girls got off to a flying start in the 4 x 100m relay, leading by some distance, but unfortunately the baton was dropped in the changeover and they were disqualified.

The boys’ team dominated the competition, once again finishing in 1^st place. Outstanding performances came from; Boys Captain Matt Jones (4^th in 800m and 3^rd in 1500m); George Payne (1^st in 60m final); Ayo Yamah (6^th in 60m final); Fridaos Abdulrauf (8^th in 800m and 5^th in high jump); Arran Entwistle (4^th in 1500m); Paul Ogunbodede (3^rd in high jump and 5^th in long jump); Callum O’Malley (2^nd in long jump); Jake Grundy (2^nd in shot); Sam Millington (7^th in shot). The boys 4 x 100m relay team comfortably finished in 1^st place (Paul Ogunbodede, Sam Millington, Ayo Yamah, George Payne).

Holy Cross has a very talented squad of athletes this year so really well done to all involved; you were an absolute credit to the college at this competition. We are already looking forward to the next National meet at Gateshead in May were we hope to build on last year’s success and return with further silverware!
