SOME of Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form’s most talented performers enjoyed a taste of the spotlight during a stunning evening of Jazz and Swing last Thursday (January 28)

The concert, which is one of the highlights of the sixth form college’s musical calendar, was staged at the prestigious MacDonald Portal Hotel, in Tarporley, to a packed audience.

During the evening, performances included a wide range of popular songs, sung in a jazz style, such as Michael Buble’s version of Save The Last Dance for Me, Ella Fitzgerald’s Cry Me A River and Frank Sinatra’s My Way. Instrumentalists also shone with seasoned favourites including Watermelon Man, and Gerry Rafferty’s Baker Street which went down a treat with the audience.

Alison Richards, Head of Performing Arts at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form, said: “It was a fabulous night and the students excelled with their performances, under the expert baton of Timothy Murphy, our Music Technology Tutor and Jazz Band Musical Director. We would also like to say a big thank you to MacDonald Portal Hotel for all their support with this community event – the venue is fantastic.”
